Yukon-based singer-songwriter Gordie Tentrees played 220 shows in eight different countries last year, and it appears as if his time away from home inspired his next LP, North Country Heart. Apparently written as a love letter to his home province, the album arrives independently July 31.

According to a press release, the 12-song follow-up to 2009's Mercy or Sin was recorded at Whitehorse's Old Crow Studio with Juno Award-winning producer Bob Hamilton (Kim Barlow, Undertaking Daddies, Kim Beggs). Tentrees had been stockpiling songs for his fifth full-length, and a ton of the tunes ended up being about the Yukon.

"We took our time making it, I came in with more songs than ever, and after 14 years of living in the Yukon, I decided it was time to write about my home," Tentrees said in a statement. "I talk about the Yukon on and off the stage so much, confessing its secrets, and spreading my love for this sweet place, that harvesting these tales into songs felt long overdue."

Songs like album opener "Gypsy Wind" touch on northern life, while "Holy Moly" deals with a guy that "wrestles bears in my underwear" to impress some local women. You can stream new number "Black Seeds" down below.
